Phase 1: Immediate Aftercare (First 24-48 Hours)
Cool Down: Your skin will likely feel warm, sensitive, and look slightly red or swollen (like a mild sunburn). Apply cool compresses or ice packs (wrapped in a clean cloth) gently for short periods. Avoid direct ice-to-skin contact.
Soothe: Use fragrance-free, alcohol-free aloe vera gel or a gentle, cooling moisturizer recommended by your clinic. Apply sparingly and gently.
Leave it Alone: Avoid touching, rubbing, scratching, or picking the treated area. Friction can irritate the skin or cause infection.
Skip the Heat: Say no to:
Hot showers/baths (opt for lukewarm).
Saunas, steam rooms, hot tubs.
Strenuous exercise that causes excessive sweating.
Heating pads or hot water bottles near the area.
Loose Clothing: Wear soft, loose-fitting, breathable cotton clothing over treated areas to avoid friction and irritation.
Gentle Cleansing: Wash the area very gently with cool/lukewarm water and a mild, fragrance-free cleanser. Pat dry do not rub.
Phase 2: The First Week & Beyond (Critical Healing Window)
Sun Protection is NON-NEGOTIABLE:
This is the MOST IMPORTANT rule. Laser-treated skin is extremely photosensitive.
Avoid Direct Sun Exposure: Completely shield treated areas from direct sunlight.
High SPF Sunscreen: Apply a broad-spectrum mineral sunscreen (containing Zinc Oxide or Titanium Dioxide, SPF 30 or higher) generously every single time the area will be exposed to daylight, even through windows or on cloudy days. Reapply every 2 hours if outdoors.
Cover Up: Wear protective clothing (wide-brimmed hats, long sleeves, pants) made of tightly woven fabrics. Consider UPF-rated clothing.
No Tanning: Absolutely avoid sunbathing, tanning beds, and self-tanners on treated areas for at least 4-6 weeks before and after each session. Tanned skin increases the risk of burns and hyperpigmentation.
